Importance of Using a Brass Hammer When using a disc cutter, design punches or other steel tools you should avoid using a jeweler's hammer, ball peen hammer, household hammer or any other steel hammer. Using them can be dangerous.
Use a Brass Hammer instead. When you strike a steel tool with a steel hammer, there is a great possibility that the impact can cause one or both of the tools to crack or shatter. This will damage the tool and can send shards of metal flying.
A brass hammer is softer than the steel tool you will strike. Because of this, the tools won't be damaged. Yes, the brass hammer will get marred (it is supposed to) and brass can "rub off" on the struck end of the tool, but this is a small price for safety and keeping your tools in good condition. |
