Dedeco Koolies Heatless Grinding Wheels – Black Coarse Grinding wheels are very good at removing metal. Unfortunately, they're also pretty good at making it hot.
Dedeco Koolies Heatless Grinding Wheels are coarse silicon-carbide wheels designed for fast, controlled grinding while producing an absolute minimum of heat. Their special non-clogging binder continually exposes fresh, sharp abrasive as the wheel wears, helping them keep cutting instead of loading up and becoming progressively less useful.
For jewelry work, they're a handy choice for grinding, shaping, smoothing rough edges, removing excess metal, cleaning up castings, and other jobs where you need to remove material quickly. They're especially useful when a file seems painfully slow but a bur feels a little too localized for the area you're trying to work.
A metal bushing in the center helps keep the wheel properly centered and running true on the mandrel. Koolies are used with a screw-type wheel mandrel (43-128), making them an easy addition to a flex shaft or rotary handpiece setup.

FDJ Tip: Pick your thickness according to the job. The 1/8" wheels are easier to get into narrower areas and give you a little more precision; the 3/16" wheels give you a broader grinding surface when you've simply got metal that needs to go away. And despite the name “Heatless,” friction has not actually been eliminated, use a sensible touch and give your work a chance to cool during heavier grinding.
