FAQs

FDJ FAQs

Why is my shipping charge so high?
  • We understand your concern about freight charges. We are concerned as well, but we are also concerned about the level of service we can provide to our customers. There a few choices when it comes to delivering packages to our customers. After trying many delivery services over the years, we have found that UPS is the best fit for our needs.
  • We want your order to arrive on time and in one piece, and we feel that we experience better delivery, few losses and damage with UPS. Cheap freight isn't so great when you package is late or lost or damaged.
  • For standard UPS services we charge the UPS plus $1.70 handling charge per shipment (large items such as workbenches will have high handling due to their size).
  • We do offer "EcoShip" which is standard UPS ground service with a twist. By selecting EcoShip we will pack your order in the best reused box. This helps the environment by reusing resources and saves us both a little money.

Why can't my order be sent by mail?
  • We have chosen not to use the Postal Service for a variety of reasons. The chief ones are...
    1. We have experienced far more problems or losses with the Postal Service than with UPS.
    2. The Post Office makes it impossible to integrate freight calculation into our accounting software, which is one of the most commonly used. UPS software integrates seamlessly.
    3. If there are any irregularities with the mailing process, the shipment has to be taken to the Post Office for a clerk to handle in person; this doesn't happen with UPS.
    4. The Post Office advertises prices for "no frills" service. The $5.00 Priority Mail box does not include insurance or signature upon delivery which can more than double the postage cost.
  • We do use the Post Office with customers in Alaska and Hawaii as well as Puerto Rico and APO/FPO addresses. But even in these cases, the extra work required to send package by mail can cause delays and problems.
